You will need to buy special equipment anyway, and this may not be used again for a very long time. You may be able to hire what you need. In the vast majority of cases it will be better to get the job done by a roofing professional. Find the right craftsman, and you can then be sure of the quality of the work. Ask for referrals if you can. There is a lot of money to be saved with improved insulation from well fitting cedar shake.
