Something that is interesting about cedar closets is that they have been around for a very long time to house clothing and so have the claims that cedar has the ability to repel moths and other pesky nuisances. For many, this notion of repelling moths was nothing but an old wives' tale. Many couldn't fathom why one type of wood would do such a thing over another. However, over time science has actually proven the value of cedar as a material to protect your valuable items of clothing. Why would you want to risk ruining your expensive clothes? It is time to go back to cedar.
Having a cedar closet has other benefits as well. This hard wearing wood is easy to clean and maintain, and it can withstand many years of use. If you are in the process of redecorating your bedroom, think about having cedar furniture installed. If you are not thinking of a full redecorating, there are still steps you can take to give your existing furniture some of the appearance, and even some of the attributes, of a cedar paneled range.
If you want to go with the cheapest and easiest option, then using wafer board panels is the way to go. These are just extremely thin pieces of wood which you can attach to your existing furniture. It is possible to give your furniture a totally new appearance for a fraction of the expense of buying completely new furniture. While this will give you some of the benefits of cedar, it is not as effective as having a full set of cedar furniture. It will also not look as aesthetic as a full cedar solution.
A step up from wafer panels is to go with plywood panels, which are a much better option. They basically do exactly the same job, but the plywood is thicker, more durable, and the overall effect is far more aesthetic and convincing than the very thin panels would be. It is another cheap solution, but far more expensive than the thin panels. Choose this option if you want something slightly more like a real cedar closet, but don't want to go the significantly higher expense of installing the real thing. The panels can be installed by nailing them on, which will leave an unsightly mark, or by using a wood adhesive.
If you want the best looking solution, then a set of solid wood cedar planks will do the trick, but this is definitely the most expensive way to bring cedar into your home. This will also be the most effective solution in getting the cedar to do its job of protecting your clothes. If you can afford to pay for this option, it is definitely the right one to choose. You will notice the benefit in the room immediately, even if it is impossible to measure the protection you are getting from moths and other pests. You will still notice the fine quality of good cedar closets.
